a statement

People have asked me if I consider myself an artist. To that question, I answer, “Yes.” Using art, I attempt to convey an idea to people. It’s difficult to explain emotions through words. I find it much easier and more effective to explain emotions using images, either still or moving. Images can spark people imaginations, make them feel a certain way, or make them understand what’s happening with me and how I feel about something in particular. Granted, the images, to some, will be unsuccessful, but the attempt made in the art is all that matter. If the images can’t make a person realize something or feel a certain way, then it would be impossible for words to describe the same thing. A picture is worth a thousand words? That would mean my video art is worth 27,790 words per second.

The Mosquito
Does the mosquito ponder his life, while he tickles the small hairs on my forearm? Can he anticipate what actions are to come? Has he realized just how short his life will be? Feeling my motion, does the mosquito now regret choosing my arm to feed from? As the shadow of my hand consumes his vision, will the mosquito ask for God’s forgiveness. Will he swear to never drink from another human arm again? Would he dare make such empty promises? No, instinct and desire are all the mosquito needs.

I make art because simply I like doing it. I liked making, drawing, coloring, sculpting and all sorts of art since I was younger. Even though my parent didn't let me take any art lessons, somehow it was connected to my life. After few times of denying on studying art/living as an artist and my parents' disagreement and threat of no support, now I can finally study art and enjoy it much more. Art give me comfort and peace in my mind.
